| Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) urges the authorities not to close schools with instruction in Ukrainian.
This is stated in the application of UWC.
- Ukrainian World Congress expresses its deep concern at the threat of closure in Luhansk and Donetsk regions a number of educational institutions with Ukrainian language, including Ukrainian schools number 77 and number 44 in Makiivka, № 19 - in the urban village Hirnyak, № 3 - in Lisichansk, № 15th Krasny Luch, № 111 and Ukrainian Humanities College in Donetsk, about what it is provided the information in the Ukrainian press, - the document said.
At UWC stresses that, "explaining their actions with so-called optimization of the school network, lack of appropriate funding and lack of the school students in that schools, authorities plans to close Ukrainian school in Lugansk and Donetsk regions. This will deny the right of students to study in their national language."
- World Congress urges Ukrainian authorities to stop the destructive course of Ukrainian-language education in Luhansk and Donetsk regions and to act according to Art. 10 of the Constitution of Ukraine, which stipulates that the state language in Ukraine is Ukrainian, and that the state provides comprehensive development and functioning of Ukrainian language in all spheres of public life throughout Ukraine, - the president of UWC, Yevhen Cholij said.
As it is reported, the head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, Anatoliy Blyznyuk said that residents of that region should be prove that it is a need for school network optimization, and made arguments in favor of closing schools.
