On March 14 the head of Lviv Regional Council, Oleg Pan'kevich and the head of Rusyn-Ukrainian Union of Slovak Republic, Petro Sokol signed an agreement about the creative community between Regional Council and the Union. As it is stated in the agreement, the cooperation of both parties will aim to exchange information and experience in the field of cultural heritage, to exchange of creative collectives and joint participation in the organization of artistic events.

As the guest of Slovakia said, according to the last census in 2001, almost 11 thousand citizens consider themselves as a Rusyn-Ukrainian, but this relatively small community keeps the Ukrainian language and traditions. Petro Sokol believes that preserve Ukrainian national consciousness abroad can only be due to cultural and educational work. Ukrainian from Pryashiv have vast experience of such work, but without Ukraine support it becomes increasingly difficult for them to realize their projects.

Oleg Pan'kevich noted that the Lviv Regional Council is interested in contacts with the environment nationally conscious Ukrainian outside Ukraine. In particular, it is about a joint commemoration of National Memory Places, about a joint organization of art projects and about economic cooperation.

For now the parties have agreed that Slovakia will host artistic groups, artists from the Lviv region to participate in festivals, exhibitions, etc., and similarly the Lviv region will host artistic groups and artists, offered by the Rusyn-Ukrainian Union of Slovakia.
