Prosecutor General Pshonka: Tymoshenko does not need hospital treatment or surgery | | Direct speech | 17-02-2012, 17:13 | 0 92 |
| Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko does not need hospital treatment or surgery according to the results of her medical examination, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka has said.
"In-patient treatment, and surgery in particular, is not required. These are the findings of the foreign experts who examined Tymoshenko," he told journalists in Dnipropetrovsk on Friday, where he was to attend a nationwide seminar between the prosecutors of regions, districts and city districts.
Pshonka also said that Tymoshenko has a back problem, and added that the findings of the foreign and Ukrainian doctors "are almost identical."
He also noted that the findings of doctors were confidential and were handed to Tymoshenko personally. Pshonka said that Tymoshenko had also received the results of her examination and recommendations to treat her illness.
The prosecutor general also said that Tymoshenko had not taken a blood test despite being advised to do so by the doctors.
He also noted that the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine and the State Penitentiary Service were ready to provide the opportunity for Tymoshenko to be examined at any public or private medical institution in Kharkiv, if it were necessary. However, the doctors said that it was unnecessary to do so and examined her at the Kachanivska penal colony, Pshonka said.
He said that the prosecutor's office and the penitentiary service "actively assisted" the examination of Tymoshenko by the German, Canadian and Ukrainian doctors.
As reported, on February 14-15, a commission of German, Canadian and Ukrainian experts examined Tymoshenko in the Kachanivska penal colony in Kharkiv.
A member of the medical commission, Head of the Romodanov Institute of Neurosurgery, Yevhen Pedachenko, said in Kharkiv that Tymoshenko did not need surgery.
Tymoshenko's defense lawyer, Serhiy Vlasenko, in turn, said that independent foreign doctors had noted that the former prime minister was suffering from a severe illness. | | |
