| Ukraine's State Penitentiary Service has said that the its health care department is implementing all of the recommendations made by an international medical commission of experts regarding the treatment of Ukraine's jailed former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and are waiting for additional recommendations from German experts by the end of this week.
"We're following the recommendations that were made by the Canadian and German doctors. The doctors of our institution are constantly monitoring Tymoshenko's health. In particular, we have provided the patient with a walking frame, as recommended by German experts," the press office of the State Penitentiary Service quoted the head of the health care department, Yevhen Poliakov, as saying on Monday.
He said that the Kachanivska penal colony, in which Tymoshenko is imprisoned, was waiting for additional recommendations from German doctors, which they pledged to send to Ukraine by the end of this week.
"In turn, we are ready to continue to fully comply with all recommendations regarding the treatment of prisoner Tymoshenko. Surgery for the patient, including outside of the Kachanivska colony, is no exception. Although the question of surgery has not currently been raised, and the doctors do not propose and justify such a step in their conclusions, we are still ready, if necessary, to provide for such a possibility," Poliakov said.
As reported, on February 14-15, a commission of German, Canadian and Ukrainian experts examined Tymoshenko in the Kachanivska penal colony in Kharkiv.
A member of the medical commission, Head of the Romodanov Institute of Neurosurgery, Yevhen Pedachenko, said in Kharkiv that Tymoshenko did not need surgery.
Tymoshenko's defense lawyer, Serhiy Vlasenko, in turn, said that independent foreign doctors had noted that the former prime minister was suffering from a severe illness and that she had not been provided with a walking frame. | | |
